What to Wear
Riding a bicycle can be part of any lifestyle—with a few modifications you can wear almost anything.
Dress for Comfort and Style
If it feels right, you should probably wear it cycling!
Wear any type of footwear cycling; soft soles can transmit pressure from standard pedals and be less comfortable.
Wear breathable, moisture-wicking clothing to stay cool and dry.
Use padded shorts for comfort when cycling long distances; they can be worn under regular shorts or skirts.
Dress for Safety
Wrap long dresses and skirts, baggy trousers, and pant cuffs to keep them from getting caught in the chain or wheel spokes and causing a fall.
Tie up all loose fabrics
Use pant clips or leg bands (or roll up your pant legs)
Add a chain guard and wheel guard to your bike
Wear bright-coloured clothing, reflective material, or a safety vest to make you more visible to other road users and reduce collision risk.
Wear gloves to protect your hands in case of a fall, or from blisters.
Dress for the Weather
Use warm, waterproof, and windproof capes and jackets to keep cycling in all weather conditions.
Dress in layers to accommodate temperature changes.
In cold weather, wear gloves that allow you to operate the brake levers and gear shifters.
When it rains, wear waterproof shoes, or add shoe covers or ‘booties’ to keep dry.
