Researchers from Simon Fraser University (SFU) and in partnership with the B.C. Cycling Coalition (BCCC) have created a new interactive map for bike infrastructure in communities across B.C. The map helps promote and improve cycling safety.
A team at SFU's Cities, Health & Active Transportation Research Lab made a tool to create a shared database for bike infrastructure standards in communities throughout the province.
The project, led by Professor Meghan Winters from the Faculty of Health Sciences, was funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. They recognized that there is no national collection of data on cycling infrastructure.
The tool helps communities find gaps in bike infrastructure using shared data standards. The code and dataset are open source.
