In collaboration with TransLink and HUB Cycling, with support from the BC Cycling Coalition, the provincial government has announced it will support cycling access across the Fraser River during the 3-month planned completion of the new stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge linking New Westminster and Surrey.
A free, temporary shuttle will be made available to cyclists during weekday mornings (6:30-9:30am) and evenings (3:30-6:30pm), peak periods when bikes are not allowed on Skytrain. Shuttle pick-up and drop-off locations will be near the respective Skytrain Expo Line stations (Columbia in New West; Scott Road in Surrey).
The shuttle service starts Tuesday, February 17th, and will operate for approximately three months until the east multi-use path on the new bridge is open later in the spring. Outside of peak hours, all cyclists are able to use Skytrain.
The multi-use path on the west side is expected to open in mid-2026.
In addition to the three-month closure of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge multi-use path, the Central Valley Greenway between McBride Boulevard and Elliot Street in New Westminster will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians for approximately 4-6 weeks, expected to start in late February.
For all information about the bike shuttle service schedule (including pickup and drop-off location maps, capacity and rules about e-bikes), and the Central Valley Greenway closure (including detour options), see the Pattullo Bridge Replacement website.

Last Chance to Say Goodbye to the Pattullo Bridge
The new four-lane stal̕əw̓asəm (pronounced stah-loh-ah-sum) Bridge, which replaces the Pattullo Bridge, officially opened to vehicle traffic on February 14th. Also called ‘Riverside’, the new bridge includes dedicated walking and cycling lanes separated from traffic, and improved connections to bridge approaches on both ends of the crossing, as compared to its 89-year old predecessor.
The Pattullo Bridge will close forever on February 18th; this weekend, with vehicle traffic routed to the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge, members of the public were able to explore the bridge deck on foot and by bike.
If you want to walk or ride across the car-free Pattullo Bridge, Tuesday, February 17th is your last chance!
