Sneak Preview: 2026 AT Summit Program
Safe streets advocacy. Indigenous inclusion. Active transportation and aging. Local tourism and economic growth.
The BC Cycling Coalition (BCCC) has released a preview of this year's Active Transportation (AT) Summit in Victoria, providing what organizers say is a snapshot of the diversity of challenges and opportunities facing active transportation in British Columbia today.
This year’s AT Summit, a three-day education and networking conference organized by the BCCC, is supported by the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC), the Government of British Columbia, and Capital Bike, local host partners for the event.
The AT Summit takes place October 28-30 at the Victoria Convention Centre; now in its fourth year, this is the first time the conference will take place in the provincial capital.
"We're very excited to be working with our friends at Capital Bike, and a very supportive group of sponsors and partner organizers, to bring the AT Summit to the Capital Region," said BCCC's executive director Colin Stein, who serves as chair of the AT Summit organizing committee. "Since wrapping the 2025 Summit in Kimberley, there's been continued interest in bringing the provincial AT community back together, as evidenced by the call for abstracts.
“We received a ton of great applications for the 2026 program, and we're happy to share a sneak peak before summer hits."
The first ten session topics released by the BCCC span themes related to community, AT policy and strategy, and the design and impacts of active transportation infrastructure.
Confirmed speakers come from B.C.'s transportation advocacy, education programs, and planning and engineering sectors, as well as from academia, local First Nations, and government.
"Summit attendees tend to share a common interest in cycling and other forms of active mobility, while at the same time representing this incredible breadth and diversity of experience and expertise. We have community organizers, researchers and technologists all coming together with different backgrounds, skills and practices—this year will provide something for everyone,” said Stein.
The 2026 AT Summit will feature optional, half-day workshops, a main conference day, and a trade exhibit area, along with social events, meeting spaces, and guest keynote speakers. The planning process, said Stein, includes some challenges some might consider ‘nice-to-haves’.
"We received over 40 submissions to our call for abstracts, many of them of very high quality—too many to fit into the full program! And it continues to generate interest from highly qualified AT leaders from around the province," he said, adding that the organizing committee will release the balance of the program over the course of the summer.
Registration for the AT Summit opens to the public in August, with discounts for the conference and optional workshops available to BCCC members.
