Using Public Transit
You can go farther and faster when you use a bicycle in combination with public transit.
Buses
Most public buses in BC are equipped with front bicycle racks; bicycles travel free with a passenger fare.
E-bikes are permitted on bus bike racks if they weigh less than 25 kg (55 lbs); batteries must usually be removed.
Local transit companies often provide tips on using bicycle racks, and how to prepare and load your bike.
Some highway coach lines allow bicycles and may require bikes to be packed in boxes or bike bags.
Commuter Rail & SkyTrain
In Metro Vancouver, bicycles are allowed on SkyTrain and WestCoast Express at no extra charge, subject to space availability and some conditions.
Bicycles are not allowed on escalators and must be carried on stairs or transported by elevator.
Most SkyTrain stations have bike racks and bike lockers, and some have card-operated bike parkades.
Trains
Most passenger trains allow bicycles on board; many have bike racks, though some may require bicycles to be packed in boxes or bike bags.
Via Rail and Amtrak charge a fee; racks can often be reserved in advance.
Ferries and SeaBus
Bicycles are allowed on all BC Ferries vessels and Seabuses at no additional charge.
Washington State Ferries and Black Ball Ferries charge modest fees for bicycles on trips between Vancouver Island and Washington State.
