2025 Active Transportation Summit - How we went 'Further, Together'
Why Kimberley? The Kootenays Embrace AT
“Why Kimberley?” was a question we heard at the sold-out Regional Active Transportation summit held at the Kimberley Conference Centre Sept. 10-12.
There were two main reasons, Peter Ladner, BCCC’s Board Chair, said at the opening address. First, BCCC wanted to host a summit outside a major centre to focus on issues particular to rural and small-town B.C. Second, the City of Kimberley stepped up via the Planning Institute of B.C. (PIBC) Kootenay-Rocky Mountain chapter, who partnered with us for the event.
Together, BCCC and PIBC, with organizational help from shared mobility enabling company movmi and the vital support of many sponsors, attracted a sold-out Summit. In attendance were 120 planners, speakers, First Nations representatives, politicians, engineers, MOTT staff, health officials, economic development officers, advocates and citizens from B.C., Alberta and Ontario to share their stories, plans and concerns.
Thank you all for joining us, and we hope to see many more of you at next year’s Summit!
Fun on the trails, thanks to Bird e-bikes and e-scooters.
“This year was very grassroots and included more on what communities are doing, which was really great and the core attendees were very engaged.”

Rights of Way — BCCC’s Fall Fundraising Campaign
We’re excited to launch Rights of Way, our fall fundraising campaign. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (and share/leave a comment!) to support the campaign.
B.C. is at a crossroads. Despite more of us choosing to walk and cycle instead of drive, our infrastructure, policies, and funding has not kept up.
Our friends and neighbors keep getting injured and killed on our streets and yet our government has suspended their Active Transportation Infrastructure grants.
Now more than ever, we need to pursue our vision for a province where cycling is safe and accessible for everyone.
All donations up to $15,000 received by Giving Tuesday (Dec. 2) will be matched by a generous donor. This means your gift will go twice as far!
Blue skies and smiles for conference attendees.

Introducing the B.C. Bike-Friendly Business Directory
The new BC Bike-Friendly Business Directory from our friends at GoByBikeBC is your go-to guide for finding and supporting businesses that welcome cyclists. From cafés and restaurants to bike shops, accommodations, and local attractions, this helpful directory highlights businesses that make cycling easier, safer, and more enjoyable.
Whether you’re riding to work, exploring your community, or touring across the province, the directory helps you discover where you can stop for a meal, rest overnight, repair your bike, or simply enjoy a cyclist-friendly experience.
Do you know a local business that goes the extra mile for cyclists? Maybe they offer secure bike parking, host community rides, provide discounts for riders, or simply welcome cyclists with open arms. We want to hear about them!
Riders can nominate their favorite bike-friendly businesses using our online form, and approved businesses will be featured in the GoByBike BC Bike-Friendly Directory. Whether you choose to submit your nomination anonymously or allow us to share your name, every submission helps celebrate and grow cycling-friendly communities across BC.
