Happy long weekend from the BCCC (say it with us: be-triple-see ;)

This week, we’ll be in Victoria attending the 2026 BC Budget Speech. There’s likely to be lots to ponder, including major cuts to a number of public programs.

Those cuts could reduce funding B.C. communities need to plan and build local cycling, walking, and other AT projects ($24 million for 53 projects in 2025), or for consumers making the shift to e-bikes ($10 million for 7,000 rebates over the past three years).

Despite the fiscal belt-tightening, we’re collaborating with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit to maintain support for AT province-wide. For starters? The BC Bike Valet (read on).

The Garden City will also see us later this year, along with our partners, members, friends and followers, at the 2026 AT Summit—Oct. 28-30 at the Victoria Conference Centre. More on that below as well.

Bike benefits for 14 communities in second year of BC Bike Valet

Our Squamish parked 1,500 bikes over five days of events in 2025.

The numbers in our final report say it all.

Bike valets partially funded by the province’s popular grant program helped feed a bike valet boom last summer and fall:

over 70,000 bikes parked
655 operating days at events & public venues across B.C.
16 months of full-time work created for paid staff and volunteers

In addition to doubling 2024 numbers, our final report to government also showed BC bike valets had measurable impact on AT mode shift and climate goals, with three quarters of bike valet trips replacing car trips. Read more →

4th AT Summit coming to Victoria

Hosted by the BCCC, in partnership with Capital Bike and supported by BEST and HUB Cycling, this year’s AT Summit will once again bring together advocates, educators, engineers, funders, planners, program developers, researchers, and service providers. for relationship-building, learning, and celebration…all in support of moving active transportation forward in British Columbia!

B.C. gov’t to decommission 67km portion of Kettle Valley Trail

Estimated to cost $20 million, the plan is attracting opposition from across the province.

The damaged segment, located just west of Princeton, and winding northwest to Coldwater River and the Coquihalla Highway, suffered extensive damage during the atmospheric river event of November 2021, with 50 sites identified as “significantly compromised by flooding and erosion directly related to the event.” The provincial government has announced it prefers to decommission this section, rather than fix it.
