New Program: BC Bike Valet Grants

The BC Cycling Coalition enters into partnership with Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to support bike valets across the province.

Bike valets, the secure bike parking service operated by events and public venues in communities across British Columbia, will get a funding boost from the provincial government in 2024.

A new grant program, BC Bike Valet, will be administered by the BC Cycling Coalition, and hand out grants ranging in size from $10,000 to $50,000 to eligible organizations to support equipment purchase, labour, and other costs associated with running public bike valets.

The grants must be used to help start up new or support existing bike valets operations, run by community organizations, Indigenous and other local governments.

“Bike valets help boost cycling as a mode of transportation to local events, music festivals, farmers markets and other public spaces because it gives people secure places to leave their rides,” said Mike Koski, Executive Director of the BCCC. “Especially for families, new riders and the ‘interested but concerned’ segment of the population, this removes one more barrier to everyday riding. For some communities, bike parking is a major deterrant and the last piece of the puzzle for encouraging active transportation.”

Applicants will be asked to demonstrate that there is an unmet need or demonstrated demand for bike parking in their community, as well as a plan for program delivery, data collection, and continuity in future years.

Funding for grants and support for program administrations is provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Intake of grant applications oens March 11th 2024 and will close on April 7th 2024 at midnight.
