2026 AT Summit Wrapped!
The 4th B.C. Active Transportation Summit took place at the Victoria Conference Centre from October 28 – 30, 2026.
Organized by the BC Cycling Coalition with support from local host partner Capital Bike, the Summit brought together almost 300 delegates, including 100 speakers, for a series of workshops, presentations and panel discussions over three days to share success stories and lessons learned from pedestrian, cycling, and shared mobility infrastructure projects and programs from across British Columbia.
We have photos! Below is a sampling from the 2026 AT Summit:
Plenary Sessions: Welcomes, Keynotes & Discussion Panel
On October 29th, the first full conference day, Summit attendees received welcomes from elected members of local First Nations—Councillor Alicia Thomas of Esquimalt Nation, and Councillor Jeannie George of Songhees Nation.
Following remarks from BC Cycling Coalition Board Chair Peter Ladner and Capital Bike Board Chair John Alexander, Matteo Jarre of Dutch transportation consulting firm Decisio delivered his keynote address, “Bikenomics, the Price of Business as Usual, and How to Win the Argument for Cycling.”
The afternoon featured a panel discussion “Beyond the Binary: Exploring the Future of Shared Transportation Corridors”, moderated by outgoing Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock, with Colleen Dupont of Esquimalt Nation, Thomas Bevan of the Island Corridor Foundation, Jaimy Fischer of University of Victoria, and David Slade of Friends of Railts to Trails Vancouver Island.
On Day 3, the morning keynote “One Segment at a Time” was delivered by former MLA for Saanich North and the Islands Adam Olsen.
Workshops
On Day 1, Summit partners and sponsors led a series of half-day workshops focused on ‘deep dive’ areas of interest within the three conference themes: Community & Society, Policy & Strategy, and Design, Systems & Network Effects.
Presentations
With almost two full days of conference sessions across three thematic tracks, there were a total of 24 different topics to choose from. Many of these presentations will be shared with delegates in the following weeks.
Tours
Conference-goers had the opportunity to stretch their legs and explore Victoria and the Capital Region with tours—a walking tour with a bonus harbour ferry ride on Day 2, and three bike tours on Day 3 (including the option of borrowing e-bikes and e-scooters from Evolve).
AT Trade Fair
In the AT trade fair area, Summit attendees had a chance to browse products and services on display by 20 exhibitors representing BC’s active transportation sector. There were people to talk to and information to take away, free swag, and interactive exhibits!
Conversations
Whether between sessions or as a feature of the sessions themselves, conversation was a big part of the Summit. All six workshops and 23 of 27 sessions included multiple speakers leading discussions on all things AT!
Social Events
It wouldn’t be a community without time to commune—in this case, with three social events. Day 1 featured a welcome reception at Bartholomew’s Pub, while back at the Victoria Conference Centre, Capital Bike hosted a community reception for local members and supporters, and a screening of the film ‘A Simple Machine’, featuring a Q&A with director Mark Alan Hoffman. The Day 2 evening reception at The Sticky Wicket Pub & Restaurant included food, drink…and Micromobility Jeopardy, a live game ‘show’ with actual buzzers and prizes!
Partners & Sponsors
…and it wouldn’t have been a conference at all without contributions from our provincial advocacy partners and sponsors.
Staff & Volunteer Team
Thank you to staff and volunteers from the BC Cycling Coalition and Capital Bike for making it all happen!
