Nick Armstrong is the Supervisor of Transportation Operations for the City of Victoria. He leads and supports transportation data collection and traffic signal modernization programs, with a focus on improving roadway safety, operations, and mobility. His work includes deploying emerging technologies, analyzing transportation data, and advancing smart traffic signal systems to support a safer and more efficient transportation network.

Molly is the Regional Coordinator for Children’s Active Transportation at TransLink, where she works with partners across sectors and levels of government to advance child-friendly mobility and active transportation. She partners with local governments, schools, and community organizations to build the policy, funding, and program supports that make active and sustainable travel easier and more accessible for children and families. Her work involves initiatives such as the TravelSmart4Kids Strategy, the School Neighbourhood Activation Playbook, and programs such as the Walking School Bus and Bike Bus.

Leanne Buhler is the General Manager of Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share at BCAA, where she leads the strategy, operations, and growth of one of Canada’s largest shared micromobility programs. Since launching Evolve, Leanne has spearheaded the service from a pilot project to a trusted transportation network serving communities across BC. She is passionate about creating practical, sustainable transportation options that make it easier for people to get around their cities. With experience spanning innovation, business development, transportation, and new venture growth, Leanne specializes in building and scaling programs that deliver both community and business value. She works closely with municipalities, transportation agencies, and community partners to advance shared mobility solutions that are safe, accessible, and responsive to local needs. A recognized leader in the micromobility sector, Leanne regularly engages in conversations about active transportation, transportation policy, rider education, and the role of shared mobility in creating healthier, more connected communities.

Kathleen Corey is an interdisciplinary professional experienced in transportation, landscape architecture, and streetscape redesigns. At Arcadis, Kathleen leads active transportation projects, drawing on Dutch training and experience as both a civil servant and consultant to BC and AB local governments. While at the City of Vancouver, Kathleen helped achieve Climate Emergency Action Plan goals in policy and by designing quick-build, capital, and development-coordinated projects that expanded public space and greenway networks. Kathleen enjoys engaging broad audiences on tactical urbanism and urban cycling through written, visual, and documentary formats.

Alastair is President of the Friends of Rails to Trails - Vancouver Island Society. He was formerly Member of the Victoria Advisory Planning Commission, Councillor in the City of Victoria, Chair of Environment and Planning Advisory Committees, CRD Director, Director of the Victoria Water District, and BC Regional Transit Director for Victoria.

Selena Davis is a Adjunct Assistant Professor and Consultant in Health Information Science. She is an adventure traveller and fervent advocate for active transportation. Professionally for more than 20 years, Selena has driven healthcare system transformation and the empowerment of people in health and wellness.

Eric Doherty is a semi-retired transportation planning consultant who specializes in improving community accessibility, as well as reducing climate pollution. His experience includes multiple research reports on HandyDART (paratransit) and other forms of transportation for people with disabilities. His education includes a MA from the School of Community and Regional Planning at UBC, and he is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP). Barry is a Transportation Engineer with 13 years of experience in Urban Systems’ Vancouver office. He has led the planning and design of urban streets and multimodal corridor projects for communities across Canada. Barry is passionate about helping clients create livable, accessible, and safe streets that make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to travel and connect with their communities.

Maya is HUB Cycling’s first-ever Bike Bus Manager, joining the organization two years ago to build up the Bike Bus program and help schools, parents, and communities start and sustain their own Bike Buses. Motivated to change the empty bike racks at her children’s school, she launched a successful Bike Bus in April 2023 that still runs today. With over a decade of experience in bike education, Maya also founded Kids on Wheels, which introduces young children to the joy of cycling through balance bikes.  

Venkatesh Gopal leads movmi, a firm focused on the behavioural change approach to sustainable mobility, working with cities and organizations worldwide on shared micromobility, developer TDM policy, and mobility hubs that bring active transportation, transit and shared mobility services together at the places people live, work, play, and learn. He holds a certificate in behavioural economics and lives it out personally! He and his family live car-free, relying entirely on cycling, walking, transit, and shared mobility to get around.

Matteo works at Decisio as Director of the Italian office and senior consultant to public administrations globally on the topics of territorial analysis, policy impact assessments and strategy. Engineer and data analyst, he combines a strong technical and statistical background with a passion for political and decision-making processes. He has a Ph.D. in Engineering and is taking a second M.Sc. in environmental political science. He has worked as a university researcher in Italy and abroad, as an environmental educator and was vice president of a private consulting firm in the energy field. In Decisio he coordinates projects on active mobility, sustainable energy and bikenomics analyses. He has developed the social cost benefit analysis methodology for tens of cycling and mobility projects and is active in developing studies on the impacts of active mobility on society.

Brooke Jones is a teacher who has spent the past 10 years working in rural and remote communities across BC, with a strong passion for outdoor & physical education and community engagement. She is also a board member of the Nelson Cycling Club and a coordinator and instructor with SheRides, the club’s women’s division. Brooke has been hired as the Project Manager for Nelson & Area Community Transportation to develop and implement the group’s cycling education strategy.

Joanne has spent her career supporting children and families in a variety of ways including youth mentoring, employment, surviving family violence, community outreach and as a child and youth worker. Most recently at SCY she leads a team in implementing active travel initiatives for children and youth including walking school buses and School and Play Streets.

Aliya is the Education Manager at Capital Bike, where she oversees cycling education and active transportation programs for children, youth, and adults across the Capital Regional District. Her work includes overseeing school-based cycling education, Bike Bus programs, community and workplace education, instructor training, and the development of new programs and partnerships. Aliya is passionate about reducing barriers to cycling and creating practical, sustainable opportunities for children and families to make active transportation part of their everyday lives.

Ildi is the Child Friendly Community Planner at SCY currently leading the province-wide expansion of the Walking School Bus program. In her role at SCY, Ildi has developed, piloted and managed various children's active transportation and child and youth engagement initiatives. With a passion for environmental and social sustainability, Ildi advocates for children's rights to grow up in supportive, healthy and happy environments. Her work with young people integrates participatory planning methods with environmental education and sustainable community development.

Andrew Murray is a retired family physician and a lifelong hiker and cyclist. He works towards improving conditions for cycling and walking and transit within Nelson and to and from the nearby regional district residential areas. He strongly supports actions which allow all to achieve more of the many health benefits of active transportation including personal, physical, social, community, emotional as well as local and global environmental.

Grant Ngieng, P.Eng., is a Partner and Manager of Municipal Transportation with ISL Engineering. With nearly 20 years of experience, Grant specializes in active transportation, complete streets, and multimodal corridor design. His work has included protected cycling facilities, transit improvements, and complex urban designs that balance the needs of cyclists, pedestrians, transit users, and motorists. Grant served as the Engineer of Record for the East Sixth Avenue project.

Adam Olsen (SȾHENEP) was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saanich North and the Islands and member of the B.C. Green Caucus in 2017 and re-elected in 2020.

Adam has a deep love and respect for his home in the W̱SÁNEĆ territory. As an advocate and facilitator, he is committed to good relationships and improving public participation to strengthen all aspects of the community.

His 16-year career in elected public service began when he was elected Councillor in the District of Central Saanich (2008, 2011). Prior to that Adam worked for two decades in the service and communications sectors where he gained valuable experience in building relationships, connecting people, problems, ideas and solutions.

Born in Victoria, BC, Adam has lived, worked and played his entire life on the Saanich Peninsula. He is a member of Tsartlip First Nation (W̱JOȽEȽP), where he and his wife, Emily, are raising their two children, Silas and Ella.

Ashley (she/they) grew up in the Lower Mainland but now calls Vancouver Island home. She comes into this work with a background in mental health, including a BA in Psychology from the University of Victoria. In recent years they have worked as an educator, a support worker, a childcare provider, and a crisis intervention worker. At SCY, Ashley works as the Vancouver Island Walking School Bus Coordinator where she supports the walking school bus all while encouraging movement in the form of play, building community, and promoting active lifestyles.

Andrew is a former MLA for Saanich electoral district, and served in a ministerial capacity under five premiers including as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Attorney General, and was also responsible for the BC Capital Commission. He is also former Dean of the Faculty of Law at University of Victoria, and President and Vice Chancellor, Simon Fraser University. Andrew has written extensively about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Sandra is CEO of Modo Co-operative and founder of movmi, focused on designing mobility systems that integrate bikeshare, active transportation, carshare, and public transit into one seamless network.

At Modo, she is leading the co-operative’s evolution beyond carsharing into a multimodal platform—connecting shared vehicles with walking, cycling, and transit at the neighbourhood level. Her work centres on how these modes function together in real life, ensuring people can move fluidly between them without defaulting to private car ownership.

Sandra has advised cities and transit agencies globally on integrating bikeshare and shared mobility with public transit systems—from TransLink initiatives like the Shared Mobility Compass Card and RideLink to Transport for London’s regional approach to bikeshare and micromobility integration.

She is also a Director at Large with Connect the Coast, where she advocates for a AAA cycling highway on the Sunshine Coast—advancing safe, connected infrastructure that supports active transportation in smaller and underserved communities.

Her work has been recognized with the Clean50 Award, the BCBusiness Change Maker Award, and the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award.

Kosta leads Urban Racks’ efforts to advance secure bike parking, e-bike charging and smart micromobility infrastructure. He brings extensive experience translating active transportation goals into practical, scalable solutions for municipalities, transit agencies, campuses and property partners.  Known for his collaborative, rider-focused approach, Kosta is committed to making sustainable transportation more secure, convenient and accessible.

Sarah Thomas is a settler on the traditional, unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Skxwú7mesh Nations. A community planner and grassroots organizer, Sarah is the Executive Director at Our Community Bikes where she works with the team to further mobility justice, transportation access, and waste reduction. She has over 10 years experience working on capacity building with small non-profits and loves working with others to build community solutions to the challenges we collectively face.

Genevieve Tokgoz, P.Eng, M.Eng started her career in transportation at the City of Vancouver, contributing to the pilot Burrard Bridge bike lanes project in 2008. She later worked in renewable energy roles at Metro Vancouver and the Capital Regional District before returning to transportation as Manager of Transportation at the CRD, supporting the new Regional Transportation Service.

Xuedan manages the National Active School Streets Initiative, working alongside project partners and community actors to plan, implement, and monitor the delivery of School Streets across the country. She has been with Green Communities Canada for 4 years, having supported the delivery of various projects, including School Travel Planning, the National School Travel Data Collection Pilot, and annual active transportation encouragement events.
