☀️ Kids on Wheels Instructor positions for Summer 2023 ☀️

Kids on Wheels is an innovative program through the British Columbia Cycling Coalition that runs balance bike camps for children ages 2-5. We are currently hiring for our weekend Winter program in the UBC neighbourhood. Successful candidates will be responsible for all aspects of instructing and delivering the balance bike camps. Instructors will be trained to deliver the program with support from Kids on Wheels Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor. 

Overview

Job type: Contract position
Dates: July - August  30 - 35 hours per week
Compensation: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour depending on experience
Positions available: 4
Camp schedule: Summer camps are held from Monday to Friday for 9 weeks. In addition, there will be some extra events at specific parks or schools.
Work schedule: The candidate must commit to being present in all camps assigned. Potentially there will be a couple of weekend events throughout June-August. 
Locations: Different community centers and daycares in East Vancouver, Kitsilano/Point Grey, North Vancouver, and UBC area 

Onboarding, training, and preparation for the program will be scheduled in June based on candidate availability.

Overall Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver Kids on Wheels (KoW) balance bike education and safety programs to pre-school age children using the KoW curriculum.

  • Ensure safety of camp participants and communicate with parents.

  • Set up interactive biking courses for the children according to the needs and progress of each group.

  • Fit and adjust bikes and helmets for children when needed.

  • Read books aloud, lead art activities and games, and teach balance bike skills.

  • Assist in the setup and tear-down of the biking course and activities, including carrying the balance bikes, boxes and gear.

Skills and Experience

  • Have relevant experience working with young children.

  • Be enthusiastic and comfortable around kids and parents, including reading books, singing songs and playing games. 

  • Able to follow a lesson plan while also staying flexible and able to improvise according to the needs of each individual child and the group.

  • Organized with excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Reliable and responsible.

  • Work collaboratively with a small team.

In addition 

  • Passionate about cycling and/or have a basic knowledge of bikes

  • A second language is an asset

This is a Canada Summer Job position, the requirements to be eligible are:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years old

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
