British Columbia Cycling Coalition announces fund to help provincial cycling advocacy organizations.

For Immediate Release

Date Oct. 22 2021

Today, the BC Cycling Coalition (BCCC) is launching a new series of grants to kick start safer cycling in smaller communities across the province.

“These funds will go to help smaller, community-based cycling groups across BC ramp up moves towards safer cycling” said Peter Ladner, Board Chair for BCCC - a non-profit, member-driven society founded in 1998 to provide a voice for cycling in British Columbia. “BCCC works to make active transportation and micro-mobility safer, more equitable, and more accessible across the province. These grants will help support community advocacy organizations in their efforts to ensure active transportation in British Columbia is safe, practical and accessible for everyone.”

Starting October 22, 2021, the BCCC will be accepting online applications at www.bccc.bc.ca/bccc-grant for the Community Cycling Grants. There will be $15,000 distributed annually to at least six cycling organizations province wide with a goal of helping them further objectives shared with the BCCC. The maximum grant possible is $5,000.

“We are so excited to announce this funding.” Ladner said. “This grant will help smaller cycling advocacy groups defray some of the costs involved with funding an event or activity, starting an education program such as our Kids on Wheels locally, or running a campaign directed at education, outreach, advocacy, or infrastructure development for safer cycling.”

Successful applicants must be BCCC members and meeting the following criteria:

  • the organization has no paid staff (generally volunteer based)

  • the purpose of the organization is to promote cycling as transportation

  • applications that are received by November 22, 2021
